Step Two - The Mishkan

The Mishkan

One can determine the dimensions of the Mishkan itself by analyzing the amount of beams used in the construction of the Mishkan and their size. The beams are discussed in Shemot Perek 26 Psukim 15-30.

If you need a translation you can try Chabad.org or Mechon-Mamre.org.

Let us take a look at the beams.

  1. How wide was each beam? (posuk 16)
  2. How many beams were on the southern side? (posuk 18)
  3. Based on questions one and two, how long was the mishkan? (see Rashi posuk 16)
  4. Were the amount of beams on the northern side the same as on the southern side? (posuk 20)
  5. How many beams were on the western side? (psukim 22-23, 25)
  6. Based on question one and five, how wide was the western side? (posuk 13)
  7. The eastern side did not have any beams, what did it look like? (psukim 36-37)
  8. How wide was the interior of the Miskan? Did the northern and southern walls cover over any part of the western wall? (see Rashi verse 23) Based on your answer, explain how thick the beams were.
  9. Where exactly within the courtyard was the Mishkan placed? (See Rashi Perek 27 posuk 18) Do you have any difficulties with the exact measurements Rashi mentions? Does everything fit when taking into account the thickness of the walls?
